Afraid your money might disappear into a black hole? Sent, and then… silence. No confirmation, no way to know where it is. When a transfer crosses borders, that silence shouldn’t be part of the deal. International payments. Nothing left in the dark. Few paintings have unsettled and fascinated in equal measure like Kazimir Malevich’s Black […]
Africa’s Steady Growth Amid Global Uncertainty: What It Means for Cross-Border Business
According to the IMF’s July 2025 World Economic Outlook, the global economy continues to grow despite heightened uncertainty around trade policies, inflation, and geopolitical tensions. The forecast puts global GDP growth at 3.0% in 2025, supported by strong international trade and improved financial conditions.
However, growth varies significantly across regions:
Advanced economies are expected to slow, with projected growth of 1.5%.
- The United States will grow by 1.9%, helped by fiscal stimulus and lower-than-expected tariffs.
- The Euro Area is forecast to grow by 1.0%, boosted temporarily by front-loaded exports.
- Japan is projected to grow just 0.7% in 2025.
Emerging markets show stronger momentum:
- China: 4.8% growth, driven by exports beyond the U.S.
- India: 6.4%, maintaining its position as a global growth leader
- Mexico and Russia are slowing significantly, with growth at 0.2% and 0.9%, respectively
Sub-Saharan Africa: A Region on the Rise
For Sub-Saharan Africa, the outlook is promising. Growth is expected at 4.0% in 2025, increasing to 4.3% in 2026. This makes the region one of the fastest-growing globally.
Key highlights include:
- Nigeria: Growth revised upward to 3.4%, supported by macroeconomic stability and improving investment flows
- South Africa: Forecast at 1.0% in 2025, with a modest increase to 1.3% in 2026
While not mentioned directly in the IMF report, Mauritius remains a key financial and trade hub in the region—bridging Africa with Asia and beyond.
