THE ART OF PAYMENTS: CLEAR CONDITIONS, ZERO SURPRISES

International payments aren’t magic but a lack of transparency and hidden factors can leave you with a sense of mystery.

The exchange rate your transaction will use and the time it will take for the money to reach the recipient — it remains as much a mystery as the smile of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

This early 16th-century masterpiece still raises questions for researchers and viewers alike. Who is depicted in the painting? What color was the Mona Lisa’s dress originally? What did the artist intend to express with this portrait, and why did he keep it with him until his death? One of the most enigmatic portraits in history has itself become a symbol of mystery.

What mysteries await a company that needs to send money abroad?
  • Why has the money been debited but still hasn’t arrived even after several days?
  • Will my payment be frozen?
  • What fees are “hidden” in FX?

MAGMA makes processes transparent and predictable:

Cross-border transfers. Clear conditions, zero surprises.

Interesting facts about Mona Lisa and Leonardo da Vinci:

  • One of the biggest mysteries is Mona Lisa’s smile — “The smile of a beauty like a sphinx,” as the poet Théophile Gautier wrote. It appears to change depending on how you look at it.
  • Leonardo was able to perceive up to 100 “frames” per second, whereas the human eye typically captures only 20 to 40. This allowed him to depict a dragonfly with its front wings raised and rear wings lowered — a position that people can usually notice only in slow motion. There is also a theory that the Mona Lisa’s smile is not a full smile, but rather the very moment it begins — when the emotional response is already there, but the body is only just starting to react.
  • Who is depicted in the portrait? The most widely accepted version is that the painting shows Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. However, there are other theories: it could be a self-portrait of Leonardo, his mother, or his pupil Salai. The very name “Mona Lisa” may even be an anagram of “Mon Salai.”
  • Leonardo carried the painting with him for years instead of delivering it to a client, suggesting it was very personal to him.
  • Estimates of the painting’s value range from $860 million to $2.5 billion.
